Last night of Spring Break was movie night

David and I went to see Horton Hears a Who last night. Let me just say that we both thought it was great... the best animated movie in a while...and in my opinion, much better than the other Dr. Suess movies that have come out in the last several years. Since we don't have kids, we had no excuse to go see it, but I'm glad we did. And I'm sure if we did have kids, they would have loved it too. It is creative and funny and the animation is great.

Just some random thoughts as I am sitting here thinking to myself that I really need to study since it's already Friday afternoon and I have not studied AT ALL over spring break so far. Obviously, I am still NOT studying. Anyway, David and I were talking about this the other day...I have a little insight for you all as to why I am in law school. From now on, if anyone asks why I decided to go to law school, I will recite this conversation that Mom and I had many, many, many times when I was a kid.

Becky: Can I have four cookies for dessert tonight?
Mom: After you eat all your vegetables.
Becky: Ok...so if I eat 3 green beans, can I have 1 cookies for dessert.
Mom: No. I am not discussing this with you.
Becky: Ok...so if I eat half of my green beans can I have 2 cookies for dessert?
Mom: No. This is NOT a negotiation.
Becky: Ok... so if I eat all but 3 of my green beans.....

I think she had to tell me "this is not a negotiation" every night. For some reason, that just egged me on.

I really need to get to studying.

Never a Dull Moment in the Torres Household...

My day yesterday was the definition of adventure. Melissa and I (and Emily, Riley and Ruka)took a little road trip up to the Quarter Horse Museum in Amarillo. Great museum, by the way, and I have been wanting to go for years. The dogs had to wait in the car, but Melissa and I enjoyed it.

Then it was back towards Lubbock with a stop at Palo Duro, near Canyon, Texas. For all of you living in Lubbock who are looking for a good place to hike, I think we found a pretty good one. The canyon itself is beautiful...as is the two longhorns standing in a pasture at the entrance. Funny story about these two, when we drove by the first time, Melissa made a comment about how they had such a good life because all they did was stand there. I noticed that they weren't moving an inch (except for their tails blowing in the wind) and I swore up and down that they were not real. I almost had her convinced, but when we drove back out, they had moved. I guess they are just really good at standing very still.

At any rate, we hiked the lighthouse trail which is 5.75 miles round trip. It was a nice hike and the dogs were just thrilled to go on such a fun walk.

When we got home, I was so excited to find out that all of David's wiring and other stuff for the installation of the TV had arrived. Matt and Raquel headed over to help us with this project. Matt and David were busy getting the outlets ready and running the wires through the wall. This required David to go up in the attic and feed wires back down through the hole. Raquel and Melissa were sitting at the table during all this and I was cutting my strawberry dessert that I was so proud of. All of a sudden David's foot came falling through the ceiling and insulation came raining down all over the kitchen counter...the TV hanging project all of a sudden got much bigger.

Thanks to Raquel's brilliant idea, I found a bucket to temporarily hold up the ceiling to keep the insulation in the attic and off my kitchen counters. We decided, however, that we would texture the bucket, paint it the color of the wall, and call it a pillar. Hmmm. Maybe not.

But at least we finally got the TV up. The consensus was that it looks much better hanging on the wall with all the cords hidden, then it did on the coffee table sitting in front of the fireplace with cords everywhere. I was so nervous about hanging a TV that weighs over 100 lbs up on the wall that as the boys were tightening it down and us girls were holding it in place and it was all secured, I could not let it go. Melissa had to peel my hand off the front of it.

At any rate, we got it done with only minor injuries. David got shocked only three times while working with the electrical outlet, the last time he hit himself in the face so hard that he bent his flexon glasses all out of whack. Good thing Melissa was here to fix them for him. My injury came from stepping on the sawzall, blade side up of course...only a minor gash in the bottom of my foot.

With all this Spring Break stress, the timing couldn't be better for Melissa's and my day at the spa...facials, messages, manicures, pedicures...and I am feeling like a million bucks! Thanks so much to my dear husband for the gift card to the spa. It was a great Christmas present!

Per Mom's request, I am posting a picture of the new curtains in the kitchen. Thanks for making curtains for me, Mom! I know you have been asking me for about 3 weeks to post pictures...it's too bad that I didn't get it done until you are in Italy.... sorry.

Also, since Melissa and Emily are here visiting, we went out to Ransom Canyon to see the only contour to the land you can find in the area surrounding Lubbock. Plus it was a great place to take Emily for a walk. But after all the traveling she has done and all the excitement of being on "vacation," she is very tired tonight.

Yay!

Yes! It is finally here...and a whole day early. Profs all cancelled class today, David got home early, and I am ready to do something fun and stress-free. Hmm. Too bad David is taking a nap. I guess I will just clean house. I hope all of you who are students have a fantastic break. I know I had plans to do a whole lot of nothing. However, things came up and I will be working most of the break instead. That's ok. I don't really know how to do NOTHING anyway. And plans to do nothing always fill up with a whole lot of something. I think I'll stop now while I'm....well...let's just say that's all. Happy Spring Break and Happy Easter!

Spring Break...where are you?

After a "fun-filled" weekend of trying to get this blasted TV up on the wall, it is time to go back to school and work tomorrow, which means another project that will sit undone all week. Why can't weekends last 3 days? At any rate, we are loving the new TV as it now sits on our coffee table until we get it completely installed. David has been excited to watch AxMen, which we are enjoying right now as we relax. Over the weekend, we went to see 10,000 B.C. ...I Just asked David for his input/review and all he had to say was "it was good." So there you have it...it was good. We both enjoyed it and would recommend it. As we left the theater, we both had the exact same thought, which was, "we need to see Apocolypto again." Not sure what exactly that means other than if you liked Mel Gibson's ancient civiliazation flick, you will probably like this one as well.

More randomness....I am super anxious for Spring Break. I will finally get a chance to play golf, get a little sewing done, maybe clean up the yard a little (which means re-stacking the pile of fire wood since one of Ruka's favorite activities is distributing it all over the place).

And just in case you were wondering, AxMen is a very interesting show...you should check it out sometime.
